The icosahedron boasts very few hexagons of note. However it does present a regular hexagon outline in one orientation. Look end on at the red triangle, so that its centre lies over the centre of the green triangle; the hexagon outline is given by the blue sides (drag with your mouse to move the model): Tip: to reset the model, click on it and press the Home key. You can cut an icosahedron in half to reveal an irregular hexagon: You can also slice off a large part of an icosahedron to reveal a hexagon with all sides of equal length (unfortunately it isn't a regular hexagon though): Not really relevant here at the Hall of Hexagons, but slicing another way gives a regular pentagon: (Java applet from LiveGraphics3D) | ||||
